Auditioning for Musical Theatre

I am delighted to inform you that the Casting Director, Richard Evans CDG, will be leading a full day Workshop titled ‘Auditioning for Musical Theatre’ on Sunday 28th March 2010 in London. The day will give a rare first hand insight into the audition process, which will be invaluable to everyone wishing to pursue a career as a musical theatre performer.
This unique Workshop will cover:

  • Research into shows and genres
  • Preparation for auditions and career in general
  • The casting process and audition panel
  • The most effective songs for the part
  • Presentation and self image
  • Making an impression and standing out from the crowd
  • Interview technique and interpersonal skills
  • The presentation of sheet music
  • Acting the song
  • Tailoring the sound for the space
  • The dance call and following a routine
  • The interview
  • Finding out about auditions and keeping a log
  • The recalls (call backs)
  • Feedback and knock-backs

The day will begin with everyone being taken through an audition in singing and dancing, exactly as they would be if they were auditioning for a musical. This will be followed by all-important feedback and advice - something you will rarely be given in an actual audition situation. After lunch, you will then have an opportunity to put what you have learnt into practice, by doing the first audition for a second time (how many times have you thought how much better you'd have been if you could have done it all over again?!) The day will finish with feedback on your improvement and time to have your questions answered.

Richard will be joined by leading audition pianist, Paul Crew, who regularly plays for many top shows including Hairspray, Les Miserables and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and will take you through your songs and West End performer and dance teacher, Leanne Harwood, who has appeared in many musicals including Mamma Mia and Grease, will work with you on some dance routines. Both will share their extensive knowledge while in action and at the feedback sessions.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our Members to work with a Casting Director of over 30 years experience and receive invaluable advice and guidance on the practicalities of auditioning for Musical Theatre.

This Workshop is offered to Members of The Casting Website at a discounted price of £65, for anyone else wishing to attend the cost will be £95 for the day.

There are only 25 places available which will be on a strictly first come, first served basis and we expect a very high demand from young Actors wishing to attend this event.

To avoid disappointment book your place today by calling 01952 458449.
